Game Skeleton

Today I am blogging about our game skeleton. I'm going to talk about three things I've got done in the game skeleton and one thing that needs improvement! Three things my partner and I have done so far in the skeleton is we got it feeled out, we are putting actions on it at the moment, and we have the scenes for it. One thing that's taking a lot of concetration is the actions. We have to have action in our game skeleton, to make sure we have movement somewhere along there! Other than the whole action thing, everythings going pretty well! We're still getting some of the scenes done for it, and working on it to make sure everythings going to look good. We have been working on it for a bit now, and I think it'll turn out pretty good. I try working hard on things such as these. I feel as if Globaloria is a bit hard, but that's okay! It's also fun though. Making Games? Who wouldn't want to do that? It's also a good experience! I'm kind of glad it's not the math topic again this year...I'm pretty happy with the topic this year. So, this is what's been going on this past week. Working on the Game Skeleton and getting things done! I hope everyones having a good year so far!

Mini Game.

Today, we are blogging because we don't have school tomorrow. Today, I will be blogging about things about our mini game. The fun factor in our game will be that you can interact, move around, call 911, and put out fires. We've chosen to do our game on Mount Hope Fire. What you'll be learning from our game is some Mount Hope History, and how the fire started! You'll also learn how to escape the fire. The style of our game is going to be realistic, but cartoony. It should turn out pretty good. The originality of our game is that we'll be adding fire animation, and stuff to do with fire. I think my partner and I will have a good game once it's done. I'm glad to be participating in Globaloria this year.

Teamwork.

Today I'm writing about my partner, and what our game process has been so far. My partner is Allison, and she's really easy to get along with. She's one of my Bestfriends, so I guess that's why we get along so easily? Two things that I like about her are she works really hard on what needs to get done. Which is good, because we need to get everything and anything that we can done. I also like that she always knows what we should be doing. She always makes sure we are caught up, and makes sure that we have everything we need to have done. I don't think I can choose anything that I dislike, because there's not a thing that I don't like about having her as my partner. So, yeah. I can't pick anything.
Our game process has actually been okay. We got done with our paper prototype, and started practicing things in Flash. I think our game is going to turn out pretty good, I hope so anyways. I think we'll be really good at agreeing with things, because we're pretty close, and we don't have to fight over what to pick. Which is good. I'm glad she's my partner, so that it'll be easy for us to choose what we want in the game. Sometimes, it's hard to choose what you want in your game, and you have disagreements. I think it'll be easy for us to choose what we want in our game.
This has been our process so far in our game.

Non-quiz Games.

Today we went over how to not make our game a quiz game. We played two games. One was called A hobo's journey, and Help Larry eat tonight.A hobo's journey was a question game. Something it shouldn't have been. All it had was questions. It also was messed up. Some of the codes was not working, therefore, the pictures on that game went somewhere where that wasn't supposed to. Now, Help Larry eat tonight, was an interactive game. You could choose how you wanted to play, like Drag and Drop, Use your keyboard, and another one. Help Larry eat tonight, was about this man who had everything, and then lost his family, and everything else he had. He lived on the streets. In the game you have to get Larry across the sidewalk, or you'll lose. It will actually make kids want to play it, at least for me. I don't really like quiz games. What's the fun part in them? What do you learn from them? Yeah, it has things for you to learn, but it's not as fun as a interactive game would be. So, I'm going to make sure that my game isn't a quiz game, because I actually want people to play it, and like it. Hopefully, it all turns out well and people will learn things from our game. That would be great, because, I'm going to make sure I work super hard on my game this year. So, yeah. That's what this blog was about today. Thanks for reading. (:

Game Ideas up to this point.

My partner and I have so many games ideas up to this point. We are doing our game on electricity. Thomas Edison was the man who found out what electricity was. We are doing our game on that. It took us awhile to figure out what we was doing ours on. We was going to do it on the history of music. Screaming music, that is. Warped Tour to be exact. But, we couldn't. Thats why we picked to do electricity. I think this will be a easy topic. I also think we'll have a few difficulties, but who doesn't? It'll be a good and fun topic though. These are some game ideas we have so far.

Globaloria So Far.

Globaloria so far, has been pretty good. Although, making the minigame was kind of hard, because the codes was hard to get them working. If you didn't put the code where they actually went, it'd mess up and not work at all. Therefore, I didn't like it that much. We 8th graders did the minigame template last year, in 7th grade. I don't see why we are doing it again.. Maybe review? Yes, I think so. Hopefully, we'll be starting the REAL game soon. I'm actually ready to make the game for this year. I'd say it's going to be fun. Well, besides putting all the codes, and stuff. I think it'll be an even better year in Globaloria, than it was last year. I'd say everyone will enjoy, instead of doing math. I'd much rather have history than math. But, that's just me. Anyways, yeah, I think i'll enjoy Globaloria this year. Meeting new Globaloria students, new teachers, and new game making partners. It's always good to meet new people... Who doesn't enjoy that? That's what I enjoy most. I think my new partner, Allison, will work hard. As well will I. I think we'll have a good year being partners. I think we'll have a pretty good game, as well as being good partners. I mean, we're already best friends, so I know we'll get along. But, this has been my Globaloria year this far.

Single Story.

  1. What does it mean to have a 'single story' about a place or community? It means when people from another place/county talk to another person from another place/county.. and they think that everyone from that place is the same.
  2. Describe a single story you have heard told about your community. What is missing from that story? How could people learn more about that community? A story I have heard about my community is.. We have a lot of coal. Our county is this county with the most coal in the world!!
  3. Describe a single story you have heard about another community. How did you learn that story? How could you find out more about that community? I dont really remember a story about another community....
  4. How could a game let players experience many stories about a place or community? A game could let players experience because, you could make the game about the community and let the player explore things about the community!!

Playing To Learn.

This week we have been going over Playing To Learn. We played Two Mini Games. Then we had to review them. I played WV Animal Rescue Squad and Tempest in Crescent City. After, I had to answer questions about the game. Like, which game was most affective in learning and which one wasn't. I found them both interesting. But, I think WV Animal Rescue Squad was the most affective. There was questions like, Which One Needed Improvement? Do They Need Improved? Does the game really help? ... Questions like that. This week was interesting. We also got to refresh our minds, to make sure we remember how to do things. So, I think my mind is pretty caught up on some things. We'll be doing a little bit more review to make sure we do know how to do things. So, this is what all I did this week! (:

Coming back from Summer. (:

We've finally come back from summer. I had a pretty good summer, I hope everyone else did. It's fall time now! :D Coming back from summer to Globaloria seems like its going to be fun. We are doing History this year. I am planning on what I'm going to do my game on. I do have a idea in mind. I believe it will be pretty epic, if I get to do what I plan on doing. My partner this year is Allison. She's my bestfriend. So, I know for sure we'll get along good. I find it pretty cool that I'm doing a game with my bestfriend who has the same name as me. I think i'll have an even better year this year! I hope everone else does.

Progress we've made in our game...

We haven't did a blog in awhile because we have been working on our game alot. My partner and I have actually got our game done! Its just one scene that goes to the wrong page when we click the button. Other than that. Our game has came a long way. We've made alot more scenes and got all of our codes in the game scenes. The hard parts was getting the codes to go in right because if they didn't, it'd mess up your game. So you had to be careful where you put the code and made sure it was typed in right. Throughout the game the most things we've had problems with is codes, and moving objects around. Thats the process we've made throughout our game. Thanks for reading my blog :D

Our game....

Our game will include drag and drop box in it. Also it will include arrow keys to move characters. You will have to take the clothes that you pick out and drag them to the shopping cart. Whatever you pick to buy you will have to use the drag and drop. Also there will include arrow keys. You will use arrow keys to move the characters. Our gameplay is where you will choose to go to a sport store or a clothes store. Then after you choose a store the game will take you to the store. After that you will choose what you want from the store. Then you'll buy it with the amount we choose to give in the game. This is our game.

Learning math....

Today I'm going to be blogging about ideas and other things I could use in my game or other games. Ideas I could use in my game are making it fun or putting problems in the game but you have to play the game to find the answer. In my opinion I do think games will help math motivation, because if the game is going to be fun and interesting people are probably going to want to play it. A game that I have played before that helped was when you had times and you have to walk to the correct answer, it helped me with timesing. Thats a game that has helped me before with math. Its a really cool game and it is also fun.
Thanks for reading my blog today :D

Working in flash....

I've had alot of experiences with flash. Today i'm going to tell you a few. My partner and I are making a game about shopping, so of course theres been alot of trouble. One of the experiences I've had with flash was drawing clothes. We are planning on making our clothes fall down the main beginning, and the clothes will hopefully fall down the screen. It gets kind of hard sometimes with putting codes on the game. Theres one experiences I've had with flash. Some special effects our game will have is drag and drop. We will have a shopping cart and you will pick your clothes or sport accessories and you will drag them to the cart. I think the best part of our game will be where you get to choose what you want to buy. You will have a choice, you can either go shopping at a sport store, or you can go shopping at a clothes store.

Thanks for reading my blog :D

Flash.

This week in flash, we worked on making our official game. It was pretty cool. Without flash, my game wouldn't be as good as it is now. This week, we accomplished making parts of our game. I made the mall part of our game, where you will be able to shop for clothes. It turned out pretty good. I still have a little bit more to do on it, but I have most of it done. Flash made it really easy making this scene. Like, when I needed shapes, they were on the sidebar. I also got pictures of clothes from google, and put them onto the game. I will probably start working on adding buttons to this scene. My partner made the home scene, an it looked pretty good. We are both making different scenes, so we can get the game done, and we don't accidently do the same scene. Before we do a scene, we always tell eachother what scene we are doing. When we had to talk to the people from Charleston, they gave us some really good ideas. Like they told us, we should make a buggie and let the player add clothes to the buggie. We are also doing a drag and drop, so the player can drag the clothes to the buggie, and then drop it into the buggie. I'm glad they gave us that advice. So, this is what my partner and I accomplished this week.

Thanks for reading my blog. (:

Game Presentation

We had our game presentations the other day, and they went pretty good. We had to talk to people from New York, and some we're from West Virginia. After Alyssa and I got done telling them about our game, they gave us advice, on how to make our game better. They also told us what they liked about our game. Our game is about Shopping, with decimals, percentages, and taxes. So, they told us what we could add to our game. They said we could add a shopping cart to the game, and the player have to drag and drop the item in the cart. They also told us that we could make it to where, the person who is playing has a budget, and the player can't go over the budget. They also told us what they like about our game. They said it was a good choice to pick shopping. Espicially using decimals, percentages, and taxes. They also said they couldn't wait to see how our game works out.
